Relying on the network
So here’s my night:
(9 tabs in Firefox trying to load)
- Six web pages trying to load
- Two Youtube videos I want to watch
- Want to listen/purchase songs from Amazon
- Want to leave comments on other blogs
Instead I’m sitting here wasting my time because pages won’t load. I try and not complain about China or the Internet speed here too much but when it won’t allow me to do the things I want to do and I waste a night of productivity because of it…I get frustrated.
What really frustrates me is when my Internet speed to America is suppose to be working just fine! So what’s taking my bandwidth. There must be a firewall blocking me somewhere. 😉
Moving to Bangkok will be the first time in six years I have not been behind a governmental firewall….have I told you how excited I am about that!

Well, I suppose that a real optimist could try to point out that you have relatively great upload speeds – most of us don’t have upload speeds that are TWICE our download speeds! OK, just trying to find the upside….
After needing to VPN out to see/use flickr, twitter, skype and the rest of the evil apps. I am also looking forward to getting from behind the firewall. Hopefully our next stop will be better as well!

I am glad I am not the only one sitting in China watching things load. I was thinking the other night about how much time I spend just sitting watching the screen as things load. What drives me crazy is when everything slows down to a crawl and there is no way to know what has caused it other than This Is China.
There may not be a firewall in Thailand, but that doesn’t mean you can go watching any old YouTube video you want!
Hate to tell you dude – but there is a government firewall in Thailand; so if you have an interest in videos that attack the the royal regime – sorry – out of luck!
At least you will have decent bandwidth!

Yeah, I am jealous…only sitting behind the great firewall I get to take time each and every day just to think. The firewall forces me to slow down and reflect. Sadly, most of my thoughts are expletives and curses about how slow the tubes are.
