You can't stop progress
It’s Sunday and I was looking forward to a nice lie in this morning. (lie in means sleep in in Australian terms…one of the 7 English languages I speak!) When I was awoken by louder then usual construction work around our apartment. I’ve gotten use to the jackhammer that seems to be pounding away 24/7 out our back window were they are working on the subway. I’ve even gotten use to the flashes coming from the 24/7 welder that is welding the concert reinforcement. But this morning the sound was different it was large machinery clunking and clanging. So I got out of bed and followed the sound that was coming from our front balcony. The same balcony that has the amazing view you see in the header here. I looked down to find this.

This vacant lot has been here for 3 years from what the neighbors have told us. When we moved in we asked if they were going to build anything in that lot and everyone told us no, that the developers ran out of money and weren’t going to finish the 4th tower in our complex. Well, it looks like they found some money because at 6:00 on a Sunday morning we have movement!.Counting the guys in the equipment there are about 35 workers. Yesterday there wasn’t a sole in this lot and today as of 7:20 they have taken 3 truck loads of dirt out already. I really hope it’s going to be a park…but my gut tells me our great view will be cut in half in a matter of months. If that’s not sad enough, this also probably means we will have construction happening here 24/7 the same as out the back. So much for any lye ins on the weekend now.

I think the term is just “lie in” without the fancy spelling. It’s the opposite of being up at “sparrow fart” first thing in the morning!
